Is It Time to Sleep With a Stranger (Again)?

Pirate’s blueberry colored eye patch, complimented the streaks of gold in Mermaid’s hair. ‘Is that all you’re moving in with? “ she asked, pointing to his footlocker, but he wasn’t feeling talkative, so she turned up the volume on her Festival of Whales playlist and unpacked. As different as they were from each other, they accepted their assignments as roommates at the University of Oceanography. Strangers that morning, tonight they would be sleeping just a few feet from each other. Confidence, curiosity, and faith would see them through.

College students do it all the time. Sleeping with a stranger rarely makes the news,  even though doing so often results in innovative collaborations and lifelong friendships.

When was the last time you slept with a stranger? Were you 12 years old at summer camp? 18 and a college freshman? Was it, last year’s business retreat? Perhaps it was that offline Meetup two weeks ago. This may be the perfect time to sleep with a stranger again, and you don’t have to pack up your duffle bag or your jewelry box.

Tomorrow is a stranger that you will sleep with if you get lucky. Have the college-kid spirit the next time you are faced with a new position, a new project, or a new determination. Perceive that which feels uncomfortable at first as the stranger you have agreed to sleep with. Close your eyes and relax with confidence, curiosity, and faith. You just might find the ultimate buried treasure.
