How do you recover from betrayal (or anything else)? Stay Up.

The point of Step 6 in the New You Journalism where you write the who, what, when, where and why about the you that has not yet happened, is to keep you up and keep you feeling good. They say feeling good is critical to all types of recovery, so I offer you a grab bag of stay-ups in this Step Six Blog. (New You Journalism is explained Here)

I know how hard it is when you are let go from a job you actually like, or when you get passed over on a position you believed you were perfect for. How do you feel about yourself when the love of your life is gone? How do you recover from betrayal? You doubt your reasons for doing the things you have done. You question your actions and slide slowly into a foul-smelling puddle of very private pity and pain.

And this is precisely the best time when you have to remember that you are loved and capable of giving love. The trick at this moment, when you are setting your soul on fire, is to be saved. What saves you?

Music saves me. Sometimes it’s an all-at-once sort of saving and at other times it takes an expansive playlist, a walk through the woods, a drink of cool, clear water, and a funny movie. Ranting to loved ones about my troubles has almost never saved me. Sedatives don’t save me. Singing my favorite part of the song, really loud and off-key works wonders however. A good word from a wise person can lift me up. Crying doesn’t do much good although it happens anyway. Eating too much doesn’t do me good and I know why. The things that do not lift me out of a funk can not lift me because they do not lead me to a new idea, a different perspective, a change. Dancing to music saves big time. Anger, mean spirited-revenge, and sulking are worse than a waste of time.

Go wash your face, brush your teeth, schedule a coaching session with me, visit your counselor, talk to a therapist, or consult a medical doctor, breathe deeply, move around, be grateful for everything both good and bad, jump around in Step 6 of the New You Journalism and then do some real damage in a Step 5 new reality. I’ll do it with you. Let’s Just Get It Done Now!

See you in the happy zone, cutie pie.

Let’s keep dreaming,

Krista

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter
and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the sheol to her ear and screamed.

There was a hermit crab inside and itt pinched her ear. She
never wants tto go back! LoL I know this is totally
off topic but I had to tdll someone!

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s funny and tragic at the same time. As your daughter grows up and you retell this story to family and friends, I hope she welcomes it with a health sense of humor.
