3 Steps to Silencing Your Inner Critic

denialYou can do better than resist the voice of your inner critic.

Silence that voice for good. The next time your inner critic slams you with these familiar phrases, “You’re fat. You’re not good enough. You suck!” take the following steps I learned from Jack Canfield, motivational speaker and co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books:

  1. Engage that critical voice as if it belonged to a real person.
  2. Insist that the voice deliver the message without insults.
  3. Listen for a rephrased message which is now absent of negative emotion.
  4. Request a restatement of that message in a positive light.
  5. Listen to the new message which is supportive and encouraging.

With  practice, your inner critic will  become a helpful ally.
